Hi, Rap - I would imagine that more durable paints were used in the restoration of the Sistine Chapel. So, not to worry. Most of the temples in Egypt had been brightly painted, and now they're all sand-colored. I wonder if there will ever be an attempt to return any of them to their intended colors. I hope not. There are 60-some tombs in the Valley of the Kings west of Luxor. Since the tombs were discovered only recently, many have intact interior paintings. On a visit to the valley, tourists are admitted to only three tombs, opened on a rotating schedule. I'm sure that keeps damages to a minimum. -Joe-
