Greyhounds and lurchers are indeed lovely animals but, as a cat owner, I would ask the owner of any such to make sure they are restrained if passing close to small furry animals. They are after all hunting dogs with an inherent inclination to go for what they regard as prey. Often with disastrous consequences. :-( Where do whippets fit in to the scheme of things? As a northerner it should be as obvious as my flat cap and muffler but, sadly, I don't know!
