I dunno, Steve. I think that for most people who visit, seeing the Sistine Chapel is a once-in-a-lifetime event. I'd hate to see tighter restrictions on the number of people who can see it. Yes, the crowds are annoying - but I think they're necessary. Nonetheless, because of the crowds and the expense, I'd much rather spend my time just walking the streets of Rome. That, to me, is what is truly delightful about Rome. I suppose I would have been annoyed by the crowds in Egypt - but I went in 2012 in the middle of their unrest, so there were no crowds anywhere. It was delightful. If you want to have a tourist spot all to yourself, go in wartime. -Joe-
