I liked Stargate a lot, but Universe was terrible. However I thought the best Sci Fi of the era, better than both Galactica and Firefly, was Farscape.

When Sci Fi Channel bought Stargate, the special effects team from
Farscape was used on the show hence the superb visuals in the later series and for the last two series they got the two lead actors from Farscape, Ben Browder and Claudia Black to join SG1.
