Reviving an old thread. A member of our session group here in Oz used to play this over and over on the mandolin whenever there was a break in the music, so that she could learn it, way back about 20 years ago. These days she rarely plays it, although she did play it a couple of weeks ago. I could never remember what it was called, but remember that I liked listening to it whenever she played it. She pronounces it with the hard 'g' not the 'j' sound. I looked it up a couple of years ago and read a bit about it on The Session where (as I recall) they also said that it has a soft 'g' sound and 'Ger' is the shortened form of Gerald. I just had another look at The Session. Someone posted this: As a kid I knew it as a little song beginning ‘Oompah, oompah, stick it up your jumpah..' Funny!
