As of 9 October 2018, British citizens had visa-free or visa on arrival access to 186 countries and territories, ranking the British passport 5th in terms of travel freedom (tied with Austrian, Dutch, Luxembourgish, Norwegian, Portuguese and the United States passports) according to the Henley Passport Index. Travel within the Scgengen area is another matter entirely as is visa free for EU citizens. Eu citizens freedom of travel outside the EU is dependent on citizenship
