I play with a fiddle player who is great at playing harmony, and loves it. When I play acoustic, there isn't enough sustain to carry the melody so she can harmonize. The electric also is easier to make individual notes stand out when playing melody and chords at the same time. If traditional music evolves, electric guitars are traditional instruments.
