For a number of years now, I've been travelling to Spain once or twice a year to act as a volunteer tutor/conversationalist for adults learning English. (Check out "VaughanTown", if you're interested in the idea). As part of the entertainment element of the programme, I usually do a short spot where I introduce a couple of traditional songs to them and get them to sing choruses. Dave Dodds' "The Magpie" is always a great favourite! I confess I drop the "Devil, Devil ..." section - not through squeamishness but just because, for me, it reduces the chant-like quality of the rest of the song. Incidentally - I always include a song in the Irish language in the set - and use it to lead into a few words about the interaction between the two languages. Regards
