The whole point of the original was that its heroism came from ordinary men acting under brutal orders and staying decent still.

Adding a Resistance element, to my mind, negates that - the whole point of the Resistance - in whatever occupied country - is that their heroism comes from killing the occupiers, even if that causes their own village and the nearest five to be wiped out in reprisal. A totally different philosophy.

I highly recommend the original series. One of the best series ever made.

Just about to watch the first series of Treme when it arrives from the secondhand shop. I've heard varying reports of it - raves and ho-hums. But anything made by the people who did The Wire gets a look from me.
