How odd? I was asked today what my favourite book is. No hesitation. The Bible, of course... aka "Theoretical Soil Mechanics" by Karl Terzaghi, 1943. 479 riveting pages of mathematical analyses of dirt, rocks, and water. I highly recommend it. I have about two dozen other 'books' but, Karl is Dog to me. Peck, Hanson, Thornburg, Craig... and the like... are merely disciples. I am reminded of something Professor Landva said one day to us eager and wide-eyed students of dirt : "If we could get rid of the water, we could build anything."
