Bumping up from yestidday... I saw a bagpipe workshop recently, in which they discussed "A440" with regard to pipe tuning. They said that in recent times that A was popularly being raised a bit to make it sound...brighter better? happier? I dunno. But the mention of the concept got me to thinking. I tune my guitar to...whatever, close to what it "should" be by listening to the "E" string, and tuning the rest to that. If I were playing with others, I would go by whatever the majority was using. I DO have an electronic tuner which, often enough, has a dead battery. And I kinda feel like it is "cheating." But I also carry an A440 tuning fork. Which may be going obsolete?? Wondering how musicians ever got by before all these scientific niceties were discovered/created. Saul
