A dancer friend who spends a lot of time in the US once gave me a copy of the Barnes blue book. Both she and I (when I saw it) were surprised that it isn't better known in the UK. It's a terrific treasury of 486 English dance tunes, ranging from Playford to Pat Shaw. It just gives the melody line, with suggested chord-letters above the staff. There are no dance instructions, just the tunes, arranged alphabetically. It's a weighty, spiral-bound paperback. Highly recommended to English players who may not have come across it. Marje
