As a child crossing the Transporter (to catch the bus from Port Clarence for day out at Seaton Carew) I used to be afraid of what would happen if the cables holding the platform up snapped. My parents told me that even if all the cables snapped the platform would float. The prospect of gently drifting off into the North Sea was no end of comfort ;-) Mick
