Well, the Epsom Derby (and the town in Derbyshire) are pronounced 'Darby', but the Kentucky Derby is pronounced 'Durby'. Just as Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire is pronounced 'Barkley', but the similarly named place in California is pronounced 'Burkley' - whether you like it or not, that is how the people in California and Kentucky pronounce them. However, I do have a problem with Americans pronouncing the plural of 'process' as 'prossesees' as if it was the plural of 'procesis' (and pronouncing 'diplomat' as 'dipplemat' - which is just peculiar).
