It was hearing Nic Jones sing Annan Water on a Dansette record player first turned me on to ballads. Agree with Joe - good ballad and good singer needed. Maybe only one in a set and I'd only do Tam Lin/Lane on the very night of Halloween. The comment 'go for a pee' reminds me of a night in the Southfield, Girvan where someone sang a very long song about a boxing match. Someone did indeed go out and return to the continuing song asking 'Are we still winning?'
