Re Songs as marches Most of the old "county" infantry regimental marches are based on popular (Folk?) songs from their part of the country converted to march time where appropriate eg Blaydon Races, Farmers Boy, Sussex by the Sea and possibly subsequently converted to dance tunes by all genres of dance enthusiasts
