I think it gets called folk music, also because of an artistic perspective - a perspective that helps the artist with the vision for what he wants to create. Perhaps folk song is a point of reference when the artist is fashioning his work Its not really folk music - that's something that the folk decide over a period of time. But theres nothing wrong with aspiring to write a folk song or a folk tune, Creativity is good. Hurting people is bad.
