I always thought the wife's name was "Becky Richmond", and that the lyric was "Takin' brown-haired Becky Richmond down" (as in "down home".) It never occurred to me until just now that her name was Becky and her home town was Richmond, and that she was "Richmond bound". Of course, that's why I'm called clueless!
