This is the name of a tune that P. W. Joyce got from John Pigot (1822-1871) and printed in "Old Irish Folk Music and Songs" (1909).

It's quite a lovely tune, especially interesting for its resemblance to that of the well-known "Liverpool Judies."

Oddly enough, there seems to be only one other independent reference to it in the whole world.

It is said that it appears as a song in "Six National Airs" (ca.1815), by John Ross, published in Aberdeen.

Does anybody know more about this? And where exactly is the Vale of Coloun? And how do you pronounce "Coloun"?
