Back in the '60s, I had an old valve radio whose tuning drifted as it warmed up. It was on the other side of the room, tuned to Radio 1 and plugged into a mechanical timeswitch. About five minutes after switch-on, the sound quality was so awful that I was forced to get out of bed to retune the thing. Crude, but effective.
