To pick up where Grishka left off: So much so, in fact, that the lyrics may be found in a German-language book published for German-language singers in the United States (may be seen in Google Books), called: Kriegslieder für die Deutsch-amerikaner Kämpfer (no author credited), "New-York": Verlag von S. Zickel, 113 Rivington Street, 1861. The fifth post in this thread references Music of the Civil War Era by Steven Louis Cornelius. Page 100 states that this was the song of the 3rd "Missouri Regiment." This could be the short-enlistment 3rd Missouri Volunteer Infantry, also known as "Lyon's Fahnenwacht." (But not Thomas W. Lyon, Captain, who fought for the Confederates.)
