I was actually trying to remind people of not only the migrant quality of folk songs, but the influence of these migrant songs on the local vernacular culture. It's very much like cooking- try as you might to recreate the old family recipe in the new place, it's sometimes hard to find the spice that grandma used You can also send home for some if that's possible, but most often you substitute. And sometimes you find someone already there with a similar recipe!

Julie Mainstone Savas did a tremendous job with Carrie's legacy- hats off to her!

And yes, I am transcribing the songs I found along with several hundred others. They will be in an actual book that someone will find in the rubble of a library next to a pile of obsolete computer hardware...
