Oh dear. Now I've gone down a rabbit hole. I assumed that the Cajun version of the song originated with Michael Doucet, but then I found a recording that, by the sound of it, surely predates Doucet's performing career. Harrison Fontenot sings La Chanson de Cinquante Sous I've heard of the Balfa Brothers and D.L. Menard, but not this guy. Ever want to hear a Cajun version of "Smoke, Smoke, Smoke That Cigarette" or the Beverly Hillbillies theme? Check it out
