Gillian Reynolds is someone I have a lot of time for. But maybe she has limited knowledge of folk music and has accepted the information of our respected broadcaster as reliable. This thread has given several instances of misleading and sheer ignorance of the subject and if the power of the BBC results in this being accepted as the truth, we need to be concerned. If the Tories find out, it could be another stick to bash the BBC!
