'The British Isles is a geographical term and includes the Republic.' Jim MacLean - with all due respect, pretty much all geographical terms are political, as they're applied to geographical features by political creatures (human beings). No toponymy is politically neutral and, in cases like this, it's obviously territorial. None of my many friends from the Republic of Ireland would ever use the term 'British Isles', let alone regarding their own nation as belonging within it. I would love to hear from some Mudcat people in the Republic of Ireland about this.
