You got that right, Johnny J ...
that was a Kenny Rogers and the First Edition hit record,
along with 'Reuben James'
and 'I Just Dropped In.'

My happiest memory of Kenny Rogers goes back many decades
to a night when he hosted the Grammy Awards.
I had seen the Grammys hosted by
Andy Williams, and thought him too oily;
and by Paul Simon, who was a contender that year, did NOT win,
and got really strangely creepily unpleasant at the podium
about not-winning as he continued hosting,
with this tense fake smile on his face -- toe-curling unpleasant.

Kenny Rogers was a contender that year when he hosted,
and I believe that some other artist won instead of him;
but he never stopped rejoicing in the privilege of being up there
and being part of an event that he loved.
He lifted my spirits.
