I discovered the Bracknell club last year, which is great. When I first moved south I could only find open mic places. I don't know if this is universal, but they seemed as far removed from folk clubs as is possible to be - people go there to perform and when not performing spend the time nattering. No one went to listen, but the amplification meant that it was possible to do so over the yatter. Mind you, no club could ever beat The Duke of York in Eccles in its 1970s heyday, especially when Ted Edwards was in.
