The first recording was by Jones' friend Thelma La Vizzo in 1924 and it's on youtube. It adds a verse, and in the famous chorus section it includes somewhat different lyrics, e.g. her left eye keeps on jumping and the train's going to "satisfy" her mind. Chippie Hill also sang "satisfy" in it in 1926 so I'm not sure who changed to "pacify my mind" when. |
