Funny, Maggie, my son's just the same with onions. When I'm chopping up onions/carrots/celery for anything I like to keep the pieces quite big. I like texture in food. I don't really understand the concept of "finely chopped" or, with garlic, "minced." ;-) Anyway, I've been really badly poorly for over a week so, if I eat at all, I'm eating soft and bland. I didn't realise how much I liked porridge and scrambled eggs. I am well on the mend, I hasten to add, though the wine stockpile is holding up well. I could eulogise all day about cooking eggs... So cheap, so easy, so quick, so tasty...
