Joe's thread entry about "Dear Old Stan" brings back a late night trip to Maine back in the 70's. As I was driving through Massachusetts, I was listening to a folk show that had Stan as the guest. He sang "Flowers of Bermuda" and a couple of other songs. What made that night more memorable was the phrasing that Stan used, sort of like He was the captain (breath) of the Nightingale (breath), 21 days from Clyde in coal (breath).
Ever since then, I have wondered whether he was suffering from some problem that kept him from taking full breaths.
Does anyone know?
