The song was written for the June 15, 1920 Ziegfeld Follies show. https://www.loc.gov/resource/ihas.200004207.0/?sp=1 It then appeared in the 1929 MGM movie "The Rube Minstrels" being sung by Billy(The Denver Nightingale) Murray. The only other pertinent reference is that this ditty was made popular by Wingy Manone & His Orchestra, and Wingy played this song all through the late 1930’s and 1940’s. https://www.allmusic.com/album/1939-1940-mw0000060531
