I agree the description sounds like Benjamin Luxon and Bill Crofut, in particular the songs on their album Simple Gifts. It doesn't seem to be on my streaming service (Amazon) but there are some tracks on YouTube. It looks like some out of print copies of the CD may be available at varying prices from Amazon and elsewhere. I heard this years ago on the radio show Woody's Children and have it on CD. It's exactly as you describe, with the English and American versions of the songs being combined in the same track.
