Folk song?   By some definitions, maybe, but written in the thirties by IDRIS DAVIES, the great Welsh poet, who had a strong Welsh background.

To avoid any misapprehension, Pete Seeger's contribution was to set it to music- i'm sure he would never have claimed authorship and trust no-one else has- IMHO the best version I ever heard was by Ian Campbell.
