years ago I watched a documentary that included a short piece on Chinese boatmen hauling a barge and singing a shanty... the narrator never even mentioned the singing, but it was unmistakably a hauling shanty - most likely of local origin I've tried to find again and failed but if you go on youtube and search on Chinese boatmen you get some interest hits like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4AgMRb3rCE do the same on similar themes and see what pops up that's how I stumbled upon the BBC broadcast in the first place, what with never before having access to BBC broadcasts on this side of the pond
