Hey there, Joe!

Here are the lyrics for the shanty Georgie, Me Neck A-Broke. I learned the song from the late Barry Finn, from his album Fathom This, and from his singing of it. This is a BWI shanty used more for lifting or shoving either a boat or a house. Neil Downey got it from Roger D. Abraham's collection "Deep the Water, Shallow the Shore."

GEORGIE, ME NECK A-BROKE

Solo: Georgie, me neck a-broke
Ch:    Hold ‘em Georgie, think he break me neck

Georgie, me neck a-broke
Hold ‘em Georgie, think he break me neck

Solo: Pull on the oar now - Chorus: Think he break me neck

Cut through the water - Think he break me neck

Black fish rising - Think he break me neck

Pull on the oar now - Think he break me neck

Georgie, me neck a-broke
Hold ‘em Georgie, think he break me neck

Georgie, me neck a-broke
Hold ‘em Georgie, think he break me neck

Put in the stick now - Think he break me neck

Put it on the loggerhead - Think he break me neck

Pull on the oar now - Think he break me neck

Don’t you lose him - Think he break me neck

Don’t let him take you - Think he break me neck

Georgie, me neck a-broke
Hold ‘em Georgie, think he break me neck

Georgie, me neck a-broke
Hold ‘em Georgie, think he break me neck
