GUEST,Don Meixner Which Irish Troubles Songs are Offensive (249* d) RE: Which Irish Troubles Songs are Offensive 05 Dec 20

Well that was a fun read. I was wondering how Seamus Kennedy avoided commenting on this the first time around. Then I noticed I never commented the first time around either.

I like to think I know enough to keep my performing to songs of historical import and not songs designed to foment hatred. To this American's eyes the current peace is a good thing. I do a fine job of Roddy McCorley and Finnegan's Wake and I prefer Spancil Hill and The Streets of New York. I preform them because I like those songs and that's what the audience asks for. But if they ask for Four Green Fields, Come Out Ye Black and Tans or Brennan on the Moor they get a little history as well. And I try to know enough history to get it right.
