Ah, Charley Pride and the Grand Old Opry. As long as an old iconic musician named Roy Acuff held a high office at the Grand Old Opry, there was not a snowball-in-hell's chance of an African-American allowed to be a Grand Old Opry member. Roy Acuff died at a ripe old age, and the Grand Old Opry, quietly and with great haste, convened (the officers did) and got Charley Pride voted, IMMEDIATELY, into the Grand Old Opry. I mean, they didn't waste a SECOND. I'll never ever forget that.
