Matthew had a particular interest in how the OT , particularly the prophets writings , were fulfilled in the arrival of the Messiah, and so he recorded the events from that angle . There’s nothing really problematic in his presenting the genealogy in the way he does , as it’s intended that way , and not the more exhaustive list in Luke Speaking of which , he , Luke, presents himself as a careful historian , and though it used to be claimed that he dated Qurinius wrong , it’s now thought that Q was in his position twice . For myself , I hold to the historic understanding of the church , that scripture is inspired by God , and trustworthy
