Donald ran Republican, with a cast of duds,
One by one they all dropped out, some became his buds,
Donald was victorious, triumphed o’er them all,
Then he vanquished Hillary, later in the fall.

Donald claimed his cab’net, would be both great and grand,
Said he knew the very best, the brightest in the land,
Maybe so but few signed on, and fewer stayed the course,
All but craven sycophants, left without remorse.

Donald had some secret plans, mainly bait-and-switch,
Quash Obama’s legacy, tax breaks for the rich.
Botch up immigration, heath care’s not for all,
Roll back regulations, don’t forget the wall.

Donald tried, some say he lied, to get dirt on his foes,
Quite in vain Ukrainian pressure points were chose.
Alas, the more he meddled, the worse it would become,
There you go, it’s quid pro quo, time to depose the bum.

Tragically magical, the process came unwound,
House impeached, Senate breached, consensus was not found.
A trial without witnesses, seems to be uncouth,
Party line was, by design, more powerful than truth.

Word came out from China, as the year unwound,
Donald Trump told Woodward, “It’s sure to shut us down.”
COVID-19 steadily, a-creeping to the west,
Trump denied it, could not hide it, though he tried his best.

They say the virus passes, by touch and in the air,
Donald tried to hide it, no need to cause a scare.
Trumpers told the people, “This will soon be gone,
Just another pesky flu, some fluke phenomenon.”

Four more years was still the goal, truth and death be damned,
Destroy the mail, ignore the wail, let all the votes be shammed.
As in a Shakespeare tragedy, the virus had him screwed.,
Four more years was not to be, Donald came unglued.

Donald stoked the fires, doubling down on his abuse,
Let the gates be opened, turn all red-hatters loose.
We’ll get Pence, Pelosi, and we’ll wield the wrecking bar,
Don’t forget “I’ll be with you”…watching from afar.

Now the deed has happened, thy will be said and done,
Hallowed halls are tainted, with vengeance overrun.
The future lies before us, issues to address,
Will we come together? It’s anybody’s guess.
