There are quite a few of these songs that can be conveniently, if illogically, labelled as broken token songs without the token. Distinctive features of this one are the consistent location (apart from some variations of spelling and pronunciation) despite the song's travels to England, North America and Australia, and the reference to the "walls of Troy". Does the latter suggest some influence from the hedge poets, despite the absence of other features of their work?

Probably most of us met the Coppers' version first. FWIW, despite my love of the Coppers' songs, in this case I prefer Sally Sloane's tune. Does anyone in the Revival nowadays sing any other version that those two?
