Living in between 2 American League cities, Washington and Baltimore, before inter-league play commenced, I only got to see him play one time, the 1969 All-Star game, nevertheless he was a hero to all of us kids, a line drive hitter with a blacksmith's forearms and a Gold Glove outfielder, he was a rare bird, what's known in the big leagues as a 5 tool player. My favorite baseball analyst, Tim Kurkjian, remembered him on First Take yesterday.
