In Scotland we have a radio programme called Travelling Folk. I have just e-mailed the presenter, Archie Fisher, and put forward the suggestion that it would be an idea to cut down on the amount of studio recorded music and introduce some more 'live' recordings from clubs and concerts. I even suggested that he introduce a Radio Floor Spot. The floor spots in most clubs range from the woeful to the brilliant. But there is a lot of wonderful local talent out there in the form of people who don't want to make it big or make CD's They just enjoy entertaining their friends and themselves. To me, that is what folk music is all about - people enjoying and taking part in music along with all the banter and humour - not a sterile studio produced CD.
Would you agree - or not? D.A.M.
