You can't say "The pandemic in the UK has resulted in one of the world's worst death rates." Why can't you say that? The 'pandemic' relates to a global event, and 'in the UK' has resulted in one of the world's worst death rates. It may not be the clearest of sentences, but it isn't necessarily misleading.
