We do tend to think of a 'diet' as a reduction of intake of something, often for weight reduction but perhaps some other purpose as here. Covid lockdowns have reduced my weight as I've not been singing in pubs so not drinking beer. Sure lots of folks like a drink at home but that's not been my style since home-brew days when we couldn't afford to drink out.
