Irish traditional music was in a dark place in 1950s Ireland - along with many other aspects of Irishness and Irish culture. I remember it. But I've never seen a truly comprehensive explanation of why that was. I think myself it possibly had something to do with we, the Irish, believing Ireland was a "failed state".
