That's great cnd, thks for those newspaper links. Edward Ives printed a very lurid description of Ladner's death from a Maine newspaper in one of his articles. I was able to find Ladner's exact hometown because of a December 1900 death notice in a local PEI newspaper. The song was written by an unknown person, probably from Maine who knew Ladner. Ladner's personality and his leaving of his PEI home as well as his burial back home are all described in the song (and thanks for adding a transcription of the lyrics as well, cnd). I hope to sing the song at Ladner's impressive gravestone this summer https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/97066809/john-ladner
