The Vermont Chronicle (Oct. 25, 1843) notes that the poem was "sung" at the annual meeting of the Vermont Historical and Antiquarian Society in Montpelier on Oct. 20. No tune is indicated. A writer in the Burlington Free Press (Aug. 4, 1877) says that the poem is (or should be - it isn't clear) sung to the Grand March in Bellini's opera "Norma" (1831). I'm not sure, however, that the lyrics scan.
