GUEST Origin: Red River Valley (38) RE: Origin: Red River Valley 05 Apr 21

The Red River Valley song does have other title songs that werer the words from the 1880s, before the song begun. I first herad the song and knew nothing about it. I got a CD called the early days of folk and roots from the 20s and got into it right away. There are more than 1 songs to the same tune and some of them might be by the 1880s artists that Fred has mentioned. IN 1959 a song by Johnny and the Hurricaines that used the same tune got to no. 3 in the charts. It knocked off What Do You Want To Make Those Eyes At Me For? By Emile Ford.I decided to write new words to the tune because of the problem we're in, meaning the Covid crisis. This song tells the story of the coronavirus and what we in Scotland and England can do to get out of it. I'm interested in this song's American origins. And I'd love to know more about other songs that use the same tune!
