Hi Joe, firstly, what has The Devil's Courtship got to do with The Elfin Knight? TDC is a version of The Paper of Pins/ the Keys of Canterbury/Heaven, Roud 573. Secondly, Robert is not quite correct about 'Acre of Land'. It has its own autonomy and should rightly be classified as a separate song to Elfin Knight, BUT it is clearly derived from Elfin Knight and the evolution from one song to the other can be clearly traced. Quite a few of what Bronson calls 'secondary versions' of Child Ballads are not even related to the ballad, but in this case 'Acre of Land' must be conceived as a secondary form of 'Elfin Knight'
