I was listening to a friend playing Polish folk music on violin and all of the sudden I heard the melody that I learned as "Come and Hear the German Band"! As a Polish folk song it's called Miala Baba Koguta and it's a song about a rooster. Hear it played, with explanation, from 1:12 (you can even see the sheet music!) to 3:52 at Greg Docenko, violin, Dyngus Day, Buffalo NY or hear it sung at Miala Baba Koguta 1911 Victor recording.
